UK Search Engine Marketing Report 2008
UK Search Engine Marketing Report 2008

The UK Search Engine Marketing Report 2008, carried out by e-consultancy in association with digital marketing agency Guava, contains a comprehensive year on year analysis of the UK Search environment.

The 55-page report, covering both Search Engine Optimisation and Paid Search, is based on an online survey of more than 1000 respondents in March and February 2008.

The report findings are divided into the following sections:

  • Type of Search Activity and Search Services
  • Search Budget
  • Objectives and Effectiveness
  • Search Engines
  • Search Problems and Issues
  • Register to download the 2008 report here free (normal cost £149 from e-consultancy)

Highlights include:

  • One in ten companies surveyed is spending more than £1 million annually on paid search.
  • Since 2007, the proportion of companies conducting paid search (PPC) and search engine optimisation (SEO) exclusively in-house have declined. Correspondingly, the proportion of respondents outsourcing to an agency for both disciplines has gone up.
  • The proportion of agencies offering landing page optimisation has increased from 71% to 76%, making this the second most commonly offered service.
  • Google is also strides ahead of its competitors for quality of traffic. Again, 89% of company respondents rate Google as the best for quality traffic.

Some of the most important findings are also broken down by sector, enabling useful benchmarking by industry (for financial services, publishing, retail and travel).
